What is the CPCAB Level 5 Trauma-Informed Counselling Course?
Our CPCAB Level 5 Trauma-Informed Counselling Course is designed for qualified counsellors who want to develop specialist knowledge, skills and confidence in working with interpersonal trauma. The course combines current research, practical skills, reflective practice and real-world clinical experience to support ethical and effective trauma-informed practice.
Is this a CPCAB-accredited course?
Yes. Our Level 5 course is fully accredited by CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body), one of the UK's leading awarding organisations for counselling qualifications.
Who is the course suitable for?
The course is designed for qualified counsellors who have completed a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or a recognised equivalent qualification and wish to develop specialist knowledge of trauma-informed practice.
How long does the course take?
We offer two flexible study options.
Face-to-Face Course
Our face-to-face programme is delivered over 10 months, with teaching taking place one weekend each month in Bexleyheath, Kent.
Online Course
Our live online programme is delivered weekly over 20 weeks, allowing students from across the UK to access specialist trauma-informed training from home.
Both study options cover the same learning outcomes and are delivered by experienced tutors in a supportive learning environment.

Will I learn about safeguarding?
Yes. Safeguarding is integrated throughout the course. Students develop confidence in recognising risk, understanding professional responsibilities, responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and working ethically with vulnerable clients.
Does the course cover all forms of trauma?
Our training focuses on interpersonal trauma. This includes trauma arising from abuse, violence, neglect, exploitation, coercive control and other adverse relational experiences. We also explore how trauma can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, physical health and therapeutic practice.
Is the course suitable for newly qualified counsellors?
Yes. Many newly qualified counsellors choose our course to build confidence before working with more complex trauma presentations or developing an independent private practice.
Will this course help me work in private practice?
Yes. Alongside specialist trauma-informed practice, we explore professional identity, ethical decision-making, assessment, risk management, boundaries and developing confidence in independent practice.
How many students are in each group?
To provide a supportive learning environment and meaningful tutor interaction, we limit each cohort to a maximum of 16 students.
